First-Year
A first-year applicant is someone who has not attended college and/or has not yet graduated from high school. Prior to high school graduation, a first-year applicant may earn college credit through post-secondary options or joint enrollment. For the most current information on first-year admission criteria and deadlines, prospective first-year applicants should visit the First-Year Admissions section of our Web site.
International First-Year
At the University of Georgia, applicant files are classified as “international” if they meet any of the criteria listed below.
- You are not a U.S. citizen and are currently in the United States on an F-1 (student) visa.
- You will require an F-1 visa to enter in the United States.
- You are currently in the United States on some other class of visa. Please submit a copy of the visa from your passport.
An international student is classified as first-year if s/he has never taken post-secondary coursework, in or out of the United States.
Different application materials are needed for each of the above circumstances, so review carefully our Admission Information for International Students to see what is needed in each specific case.
Joint Enrollment
A joint enrollment applicant is a local high school student who wishes to enroll part-time in university-level courses at the University of Georgia prior to high school graduation while simultaneously completing required coursework at his or her home high school. Once the Office of Undergraduate Admissions determines that minimum eligibility requirements have been met, joint enrollment applicants are required to complete a successful interview with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff. Students must also submit letters of support from a parent and school official and a brief written personal statement of intention to be considered for admission. More details can be accessed at our Joint and Advanced enrollment information page.
Advanced Enrollment
An advanced enrollment applicant is a high school student who wishes to enroll as a full-time student at the University of Georgia prior to high school graduation. Once the Office of Undergraduate Admissions determines that minimum eligibility requirements have been met, advanced enrollment applicants are required to complete a successful interview with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff. Students must also submit letters of support from a parent and school official and a brief written personal statement of intention to be considered for admission. More details can be accessed at our Joint and Advanced enrollment information page.
The First-Year Application
If you fit one of these definitions, you can now begin the 3-step process of opening a 2008 Application for First-Year Admission.
After you apply, you should then print out the School/Counselor Evaluation form and the Teacher Recommendation form and have the appropriate individuals complete these forms.
In order to ensure timely processing of your application, use our Web Application, which is processed on the first business day after it is received. Paper applications may take much longer before they are entered into our computer system, due to mailing time and data entry.
To ensure the privacy and confidentiality of your personal information, Web applications are encrypted by our secure server before being transmitted over the Internet. |
