List at least five words that describe the UGA community.
Enthusiastic, competitive, stimulating, sociable, classic
If I had to offer one piece of advice for incoming students about living
and learning in the UGA community, it would be:
Enjoy every minute of your time here. You are among a handful of
privileged individuals studying at this institution. Take advantage of
all of the opportunities available to you and make the most of your experience.
You’re
only in college once; do it right.
How is diversity best expressed at UGA?
Although not always appreciated as a racially varied student body, the UGA
community has done well in celebrating its diversity through a variety
of programs and efforts of dedicated student organizations. Constant
celebrations of heritage enhance the learning environment and cultural
understanding at UGA. The International Street Festival hosted
by International Student Life, Patchwork of Cultures, the Miss International
Pageant, the Taste of Diversity show, India Nite, African Night, Carribbean
Night, and countless other
events attract thousands and allow students to experience and enjoy unique
cultures.
As a part of the Indian Cultural Exchange, I have seen the organization
strengthen and India Nite become more successful each year, drawing
a larger and an increasingly diverse audience. In fact, I.C.E. was last
year’s recipient of the national South Asian Student Association’s
prestigious “Indian Student Association of the Year” award.
This national recognition demonstrates our students’ dedication
to diversity awareness.
Apart from ethnic and cultural diversity, UGA offers a wide range of
academic programs, fostering individual interests in specific fields
of study. The fact that we have students
enrolled in such a broad array of academic studies demonstrates another
type of diversity inherent in UGA. |
