Fall First-Year Orientation

Please read the information below before proceeding to the Orientation reservation process.

First-Year Orientation - Purpose

You are about to embark on one of the greatest adventures of your life – college! You will begin this adventure at First-Year Orientation, a two-day program designed to prepare you for a successful beginning to your UGA experience. This program will give you a head-start in learning how to take full advantage of the many educational, social, and cultural opportunities awaiting you over the next four years.

At Orientation, you will meet with your assigned academic advisor and register for your first semester classes. Prior to that, you will meet future classmates, purchase your UGACard student ID, hear from faculty and staff about opportunities and expectations, tour the campus, and discuss additional questions or concerns with specially trained student Orientation Leaders.

Cost

The cost for attending a First-Year Orientation session is $100.* The $100 Orientation fee is non-refundable.This fee covers the expense of lunch, campus transportation, printed Orientation materials, and administrative costs. Orientation fees will automatically be charged to your UGA Student Account within three business days after you register for Orientation. You will need to pay the balance of your Student Account prior to attending your Orientation session. To pay your Student Account balance online, go to the Student Accounts System page. In order to access your Student Account, you will need to create a UGA MyID.

*Does not include $15 cost for optional foreign language placement test. Those students planning to enroll in classes at UGA in the same foreign language they studied in high school must take a placement test in that language or have college credit through college joint-enrollment or A.P., I.B., or SAT II scores.

Testing

To assure that new students are placed in the correct level of certain courses, the University requires that most incoming First-Year students take placement tests in English and mathematics at Orientation. Some students may be required to take a reading comprehension test, while there will be an opportunity for most students to take an optional chemistry or foreign language test. Students with advanced credit through College Board A.P. exams, International Baccalaureate scores, SAT II scores, or college joint enrollment credit may be exempt from placement tests. More information on testing.

Lodging

Students attending one of the two-day Orientation sessions will spend the night in Brumby Residence Hall on the UGA campus. The Orientation fee includes the cost for the overnight stay.  Linens, a pillow and blanket, and towels are provided for every student.  For the room on campus, students will only need to bring an alarm clock (you are responsible for waking yourself up) and toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
