Visiting UGA - Two days in Athens

The following is a sample two-day itinerary for a campus visit. Please bear in mind that some of the items may require pre-planning on your part. You can use these suggestions as a guideline and create your own itinerary depending on the length of your stay. With a campus as large as UGA and a community as diverse as Athens, you will definitely want to check out our Master Calendar of events for on-campus activities or our local weekly, "Flagpole," for off-campus entertainment when making your plans.

Day One

• Follow a student-guide for the driving/walking tour of campus
• Eat lunch in The Village Summit on East Campus
• Sit in on an Office of Admissions information session
• Walk across Sanford Bridge and peer into the Stadium while envisioning a Saturday game
• Grab a copy of the "Red and Black" student paper and take a seat in the Tate Plaza for a quick break to see what band or person might be using the "free-speech stage"
• Attend an Honors Program information session
• Pick up a copy of the "Flagpole" and pick out a concert to see tonight
• Stretch your legs with a jog around Lake Herrick and the Intramural Fields
• Enjoy a milkshake downtown at The Grill and people-watch
• Rest up at your hotel and prepare for a bustling Day Two

Day Two

• Meet with Professor Hairy Dawg in the English department
• Ring the Chapel bell for a little good luck
• Sit in on an Accounting or a Psychology class
• Munch on a falafel burger at "Clocked" or the pesto-of-the-day at "The Five Star Day Cafe"
• Stroll through the Georgia Museum of Art's newest exhibit
• Buy a "Jittery Joe’s" coffee at the Student Learning Center and wander up to the third floor to check your e-mail
• Stop in the Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities and take a self-guided tour
• Visit the residence hall showroom in Creswell Hall
• Attend an afternoon lecture on Women's Studies in the Tate Reception Hall
• Find a few notable Athens landmarks, like "the tree that owns itself," the double-barreled cannon, and the original 40 Watt Club (home of REM's first performance...and not in the location of the current venue)
• Brush up on your Monet vs. Manet and attend a Lamar Dodd School of Art tour
